Bibsam Open Science Spotlight: Exploring Exergames and Active Microbreaks for Health
24 March 2025 at 15:00 CEST
The Bibsam license agreement facilitates open publication of scholarly research results and makes it possible for researchers worldwide to access cutting-edge Swedish health research, accelerating innovation in digital health and beyond. As part of the Bibsam Open Science Spotlight series, this webinar will explore how gaming, gamification, and immersive digital experiences can influence health outcomes.
During the session, Aseel Berglund, PhD, Associate Professor, Linköping University, will present findings from a recent study that examines how different types of movement interactions in casual exergames influence physical exertion, motivation, and psychological well-being.

Why should I attend?
This research offers new perspectives on how interactive digital experiences—ranging from exergames to virtual simulations—can be leveraged in health interventions. By analyzing user engagement and physiological responses, the study sheds light on how technology-driven movement can contribute to improved health outcomes.
By ensuring this research is openly accessible, the Bibsam agreement strengthens the global exchange of knowledge, helping health researchers, clinicians, and innovators develop more effective interventions.
This webinar is an opportunity to engage with the findings, ask questions, and discuss the broader impact of open-access health research. Join the conversation and be part of the future of digital health innovation.

Aseel Berglund, PhD
Speaker
Aseel Berglund is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) at Linköping University, Sweden. Her research focuses on gamification, game design, and the development of interactive products and services, particularly in the fields of healthcare and education. She explores how game principles enhance engagement, motivation, and behavioral change. Dr. Berglund has contributed significantly to human-computer interaction, exergames, and digital health applications in both prevention and treatment.

Erik Berglund
Moderator
Erik Berglund is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) at Linköping University, Sweden. His research focuses on interaction techniques, exergames, and persuasive computing. Dr. Berglund's teaching focuses on game programming, web development, and generative design. He emphasizes a hands-on approach, guiding students in developing games, interactive applications, and web-based projects. His courses cover topics such as game mechanics, user interaction, advanced web technologies, and movement-based gaming. By blending theory with practical implementation, he prepares students for careers in game development and software engineering.
